The research was carried out at the Department of Foreign Journalism and Literature of the Institute of Journalism of the Belarusian State University under the guidance of Associate Professor Boris Leonidovich Zalessky. The paper studies the role of global television as an instrument of 'soft power' in world politics. On the example of Russia Today and Belarus 24 the concept of broadcasting of international TV channels is defined. Based on the fact that more and more states support and develop foreign broadcasting, the ways of promoting TV channels on the world information market are investigated. By comparing the goals and objectives of international TV channels, their role in forming an attractive image of the country in the world is assessed.
