The aim of this research is to analyse, from a sociological perspective, drug use in prisons, highlighting how prison conditions favour it and exploring ways to reduce the phenomenon. The approach targets both institutional interventions and approaches aimed at the social reintegration of prisoners. The research aims to contribute to combating drug use in prisons and to provide a basis for recommendations for the development of effective prevention and intervention strategies. The expected practical usefulness of this research is to provide a scientific basis for the development and implementation of public policies and institutional strategies tailored to the specificities of the prison environment in Romania. The research can help identify the vulnerabilities of the current system, optimise the legislative framework and strengthen prevention and control mechanisms. The research results can contribute to improving the training of operational staff, increasing the effectiveness of security measures and developing integrated programmes to inform and empower prisoners, with the aim of reducing drug use and mitigating the impact on public safety and health.
