Smoke Bellew is a novel written by Jack London, published in 1912. The story follows the adventures of a young journalist named Christopher Bellew, who goes by the nickname Smoke. Smoke is sent to Alaska to cover the gold rush and ends up getting caught up in a series of misadventures. Along the way, he falls in love with a beautiful woman named Clara, who is also the object of desire for a ruthless and powerful man named Beauty Smith. Smoke must navigate dangerous terrain and confront his own weaknesses to protect Clara and come out on top. The novel explores themes of greed, ambition, and the struggle between civilization and nature. With vivid descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness and colorful characters, Smoke Bellew is a thrilling and entertaining read.In the beginning he was Christopher Bellew. By the time he was at college he had become Chris Bellew. Later, in the Bohemian crowd of San Francisco, he was called Kit Bellew. And in the end he was known by no other name than Smoke Bellew. And this history of the evolution of his name is the history of his evolution. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
