The first thing I ever did in the world was to draw, like all children, in fact, but many don't carry on. This quote from Pablo Picasso resonates with me beyond its literal meaning: it implies that every child has drawn at some point in their life, and so one can imagine that certain instincts remain. After taking their first steps, every child draws and, through drawing, communicates a wish, a dream or a perception that is uniquely their own, and which subsequently becomes either an acquired language or a vanishing point... The sketch - that quick drawing which, in the architectural context, takes on the dimension of a language - very often complements digital tools throughout the various phases of an architect's project.
