As children, my siblings and I were careful to make quiet on Sunday mornings lest we wake our parents only to be trussed up in our uncomfortable Sunday best and dragged off to church and Sunday School.
Unfortunately, our mother was one of the Sunday School teachers, so the strategy rarely worked.
Of course, as Sunday School was taught by untrained church member volunteers with preteen children, religious instruction was a relative term.
We learned that God created the universe in six days, and made man from a handful of clay. We learned Eve was punished for eating an apple, and that Christ was crucified, then rose from the dead to save humanity.
Unfortunately, 60 years on, the basic questions still remain: Who is this God fellow, and where did He come from? Who were the sons of God, ad why were they breeding with human women? Why did it take the miraculous birth and brutal death of Christ to save humanity - and from what? Do we really have a spirit, and a soul, and is there life after death?
'Faith, my son, ' is still the best answer I have heard. Faith is all very well, but as Stevie Wonder pointed out, When you believe in things you don't understand, you suffer. Superstition ain't the way.
Dissatisfied with official and unofficial theories for creation, angels and aliens, I decided to take the advice of my long ago school teachers: When you don't understand something, don't just believe whatever someone else tells you. They might be wrong. Figure it out for yourself.
So I did, and the research lifted a curtain on the shadowy reality behind what I had been told.
The result is The Sins of Angels - A Plebeian Inquiry, an informal examination presented in practical terms the casual reader will readily grasp.
If the Bible is indeed an attempt to describe actual events there is every reason to believe the Biblical angels, the sons of God, were human.
Now, I will be the first to admit if a single word of what I propose turns out to be true, I will be as surprised as anyone.
However, what I have discerned constitutes a coherent whole - a straight, unbroken line from Genesis to Christ to Revelation - so you may take from it what you will.
