The Silver Sunbeam is a comprehensive textbook on the art of sun drawing and photographic printing, written by John Towler in 1879. The book provides both practical and theoretical instruction on the techniques and processes involved in creating photographic prints using sunlight. The book covers a range of topics, including the chemistry of photography, the properties of light, and the equipment and materials needed for sun drawing and photographic printing. It also includes detailed instructions on how to create different types of prints, such as cyanotypes, albumen prints, and collodion positives. In addition to its instructional content, The Silver Sunbeam also provides historical context and insights into the development of photography as an art form. Towler includes examples of work by prominent photographers of the time, as well as his own photographs, to illustrate the techniques and possibilities of sun drawing and photographic printing.Overall, The Silver Sunbeam is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history and practice of photography, as well as for artists and photographers looking to explore alternative printing methods. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
