The eighty short pieces in Sight-read the Pedals cover a range of styles, textures, keys, tempi and time signatures, while also introducing the alto and tenor clefs. The styles reflect modal, baroque, classical, romantic and more recent idioms. The appendix includes a series of technical studies. First, studies for pedal solo; then exercises specifically for the left-hand and pedals; third, a group of arpeggio- and scale-based studies; fourth, a series of one-bar 'repetition drills' (one corresponding to each of the first 24 pieces in the main section). Finally, to balance things up, there is a warm-up exercise for the fingers!
