Sick And In Prison is a memoir written by Olive Thorne Miller, an American naturalist and writer, about her experiences volunteering as a nurse in a women's prison in the late 19th century. The book is a collection of essays detailing the harsh living conditions and medical needs of the female prisoners, as well as Miller's efforts to improve their situation. She describes the daily struggles of the inmates, including poor sanitation, lack of medical care, and mistreatment by prison staff. Miller also explores the psychological toll of imprisonment and the stories of individual women who found themselves incarcerated. Throughout the book, Miller advocates for prison reform and highlights the need for more compassionate and humane treatment of prisoners. Sick And In Prison offers a unique perspective on the history of women's incarceration and the challenges faced by those who sought to improve the lives of prisoners. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
