How does it feel to touch the memory marks on the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers while listening to the lived experience of a descendant? What is it like to walk the halls of the Jefferson School where Isabella Gibbons taught? The Race, Place, and Equity (RPE) COLA program at the University of Virginia offered a unique opportunity to explore place-based learning through ethical partnerships among UVA instructors, students, and community organizations. What follows are heartfelt meditations on what it means to live, work, and learn in partnership in public spaces. This is our shared vision.
