The Shachar of Dawn is the third book of the Wyoming Seaman Johnson Family Saga. After the death of the Johnson brothers' parents, Matthew Johnson fulfils his lifelong dream of sailing the world. When he returns home after being lost at sea and the family believing him dead for three years, reunited with his wife Grace and the son he did not know he had. The story wraps around the successful farm that the brothers' father and mother had built after coming from New York City. The locals battle carpet baggers and cattle thieves, Indians, outlaws, and wild animals looking for food in the harsh winters of the Wild Wyoming Plains to carve out the Johnson family legacy. The story takes on many twists and turns involving the locals and a tough as rawhide South Texas cattle rancher named Dusty Malloy and his Scottish wife Mary Jane, who is said to be the only one who can back Dusty down when he is angry. Together, Dusty, Mary Jane, and hired hands moved a large herd of cattle to Pottsville and built the first large cattle ranch, fighting off the Indians, the harsh weather, and the land itself. With the plains filling up with Easterners seeking a better way of life for their families, the locals pondered their ancestors' decision to move west.
