Sermons from THE MOUNT carry both a literal and a spiritual meaning. Literally, these sermons come from the Mount-Mount Neboh Baptist Church-where I have had the privilege of serving as pastor. Spiritually, the title calls to mind those elevated moments when God lifts us higher in understanding, deeper in faith, and closer in relationship to Him. Just as Moses stood on Mount Nebo and looked into the promise of God, and just as Jesus delivered His timeless teachings on a mountainside, these sermons seek to lift the reader to a higher place-where God's truth can be seen more clearly and embraced more fully.
This collection is both informational and inspirational. It is informational in that it seeks to faithfully handle the Word of God-explaining the text, exploring its context, and illuminating its meaning. Each sermon is grounded in Scripture, striving to rightly divide the Word of truth so that readers may grow in their knowledge and understanding of God's will.
But it is also inspirational.
Preaching, at its best, does more than inform the mind-it ignites the heart. It calls, challenges, convicts, and comforts. These sermons were preached to encourage the weary, to strengthen the believer, to challenge the complacent, and to point all who would hear toward a deeper walk with Christ. They are filled with the realities of life-joy and sorrow, victory and struggle, faith and doubt-because they were preached to people living through those very realities.
In these pages, you will find messages that speak to the human condition and the divine solution. You will encounter sermons that address fear and faith, suffering and salvation, perseverance and praise. Some messages will challenge you to examine your life more closely; others will comfort you in your trials. Still others will call you to rise higher in your commitment to God and His church.
Though originally preached to the Mount Neboh congregation, these sermons are not limited to one church or one community. The Word of God transcends geography, culture, and time. My prayer is that what was a blessing in Harlem will be a blessing wherever this book is read.
This volume has been carefully edited to maintain the integrity and spirit of the preached message while making it accessible for readers. Effort has been made to preserve the warmth, passion, and cadence of the pulpit while providing clarity and flow on the page.
