A Series of Fourteen Sketches Made During the Voyage up Wellington Channel offers a unique visual record of a pivotal Arctic expedition. Created by Walter W. May, this collection documents the search for Sir John Franklin and the lost crews of the HMS Erebus and Terror. Through fourteen detailed sketches, May captures the stark beauty and formidable challenges of the Arctic landscape during this ambitious rescue mission.
Each drawing is accompanied by a short descriptive account, providing context and insight into the scenes depicted. These sketches provide a tangible link to the past, illustrating the conditions endured by explorers and the geographical features encountered in the harrowing search for Franklin. This historical work offers both artistic and historical value, appealing to those interested in polar exploration, maritime history, and the visual arts. This historic book provides a fascinating glimpse into one of history's most enduring mysteries.
