Septem Contra Thebas is a tragedy written by the ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus. The play is set in the city of Thebes during the time of the Seven Against Thebes, a war between the city and a group of Argive warriors. The play follows the conflict between two brothers, Eteocles and Polynices, who are both vying for the throne of Thebes. Eteocles, the current ruler, refuses to share power with his brother, leading Polynices to seek the help of the Argive army. The play culminates in a fierce battle between the two sides, resulting in the deaths of both brothers. Aeschylus' Septem Contra Thebas is considered one of his most powerful and intense plays, exploring themes of power, family, and the consequences of war. The play is written in Greek and was first performed in Athens in 467 BCE. This edition of the play, translated into English by E. D. A.
