Separated Brethren: A Survey of Non-Catholic Christian Denominations in the United States is a comprehensive study of the various Protestant and Orthodox Christian denominations that exist outside of the Catholic Church in the United States. Written by William Joseph Whalen, a Catholic priest and theologian, the book provides a detailed overview of the history, beliefs, and practices of these denominations, as well as their relationships with one another and with the Catholic Church. The book is organized into chapters that focus on specific denominations, including Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, Baptists, Pentecostals, and others. Each chapter provides a brief history of the denomination, an overview of its beliefs and practices, and a discussion of its relationship with other Christian groups.Throughout the book, Whalen emphasizes the importance of understanding and respecting the differences between these denominations, while also highlighting the shared beliefs and values that unite all Christians. He also explores the ways in which the Catholic Church has engaged with these denominations over time, including efforts at ecumenical dialogue and collaboration.Overall, Separated Brethren offers a valuable resource for anyone seeking to better understand the diverse landscape of Christianity in the United States, and the ways in which different denominations relate to one another and to the Catholic Church. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
