Some doors should never be opened. Some invitations should never be accepted.
Eighteen-year-old Chömchüüne Telles (Чөмчүүнэ Тэллэс) is counting the days until she leaves her quiet home in Churapcha for university in Tuymaada. Her future is waiting: a new city, music, friendship, love, and the beginning of an adult life she has only started to imagine.
Then a simple trip with her friends leads them to Kyndal (Кындал), a distant alaas hidden beyond the forest.
There stands an old balagan (Балаҕан).
Inside is a wardrobe that should contain nothing more than darkness.
But behind it lies a passage.
And somewhere below, something is waiting.
For generations, stories have been told about Tuyaara Kilbes (Туйаара Килбэс), a mysterious hostess who once prepared a feast for guests who never arrived. According to one legend, she kept setting the table even after death-until something finally answered her invitation.
What begins as curiosity becomes a journey into a place where rooms do not obey the laws of space, the dead are not always silent, and leaving may be far more difficult than entering.
Because the secret behind the closet is not simply hidden.
It has been waiting for guests.
A Secret World Behind the Closet in Distant Alaas is an atmospheric horror novel of friendship, loss, memory, and supernatural terror set in an imagined Sakha Sire (Саха Сирэ).
