In Seated with Christ: The Gifted Ground of Christian Life, Calvin Tiessen offers a pastoral and theological journey through Ephesians built around one of Paul's most striking claims: God has made us alive with Christ, raised us with him, and seated us with him.
Many Christians believe in grace while still living as though belonging, significance, security, and spiritual maturity must somehow be earned. Seated with Christ explores another way. Christian life begins with gift-with blessing, adoption, reconciliation, belonging, and participation in the risen Christ. Formation is then the lifelong process of learning to inhabit what has already been given.
Following the movement of Ephesians, the book explores how this received location reshapes identity, perception, vocation, relationships, community, authority, suffering, and spiritual conflict. The church does not create its unity; it learns to inhabit a communion already given in Christ. We do not overcome the powers by becoming more powerful than they are; we learn to stand within Christ's already-established victory.
Ultimately, Seated with Christ is an invitation to stop trying to climb toward a distant Christ and begin living from the life already received in him-so that heavenly life can take truthful, courageous, loving form in the ordinary places of earth.
