The Seat That Was Never Mine: Following Jesus in the Middle of Tension is a reflective and deeply honest exploration of what it means to follow Christ when faith, truth, and human relationships collide.
In a world shaped by division, moral certainty, and the temptation to reduce people to arguments, Rick Kenner asks a harder question: not simply what do we believe, but what is being formed in us as we respond?
Drawing from Scripture, the wisdom of the Orthodox Christian tradition, personal experience, education, counseling, and the daily realities of family and discipleship, this book examines the quiet dangers of self-righteousness, spiritual pride, and the subtle ways we try to occupy a seat that was never ours, the seat of final judgment, moral superiority, and distance from those we are called to love.
Rather than offering easy answers to difficult cultural and spiritual tensions, The Seat That Was Never Mine invites readers into something deeper: humility, repentance, mercy, and the difficult work of learning to carry truth without losing love.
This is not a book about abandoning conviction. It is a book about learning how to hold conviction without contempt.
For parents, pastors, teachers, counselors, and anyone wrestling with how to remain faithful in a fractured world, this book offers a clear and challenging invitation:
Love God.
Love people.
Leave the seat empty.
Everything else is commentary.
