Scriptores De Sudore Anglico Superstites, compiled by Chr. Gottfr. Gruner and edited posthumously by Henr. Haeser, is a significant historical work addressing the English sweat, a mysterious and devastating epidemic that swept through Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries. This collection gathers surviving writings about the disease, offering invaluable insights into its symptoms, spread, and the contemporary medical understanding of the time.
Gruner's meticulous compilation provides a comprehensive resource for scholars and historians interested in the history of medicine, public health, and European social history. The book sheds light on the challenges faced by physicians and communities in confronting a disease with an unknown cause, making it a valuable addition to the literature on historical epidemics. The historical accounts offer a compelling glimpse into the medical practices and beliefs of the period.
