SAPPHO was an Ancient Greek poet from the island of Lesbos. She is famous for her love songs and poetry written circa 600 BCE. Much of Sappho's poetry has been destroyed, often due to her synonymity with queer love between women. From an estimated 10,000 lines of poetry, roughly 650 remain. Despite this loss, Sappho is one of the most enduring literary figures of antiquity whose poetry continues to enchant readers today.
GRACE CALK is a poet and Ancient Greek translator. She holds an MA in Literary Translation from the University of East Anglia and a BA from St. John's College, Annapolis. Calk has now studied Ancient Greek for over thirteen years, beginning in her early teens. Her work focuses on methods of formal experimentation that shed new light on ancient literature.
THIS NEW TRANSLATION employs an experimental method of multiple translation and includes meditations on the translator's interpretive decisions. The result is a lyrical account of the
