Salome is a play written by Oscar Wilde, first published in 1891. The play is based on the biblical story of Salome, who danced for King Herod and demanded the head of John the Baptist as a reward. Wilde's version of the story is set in the palace of Herod Antipas in Judea, and features a cast of characters including Salome, Herod, Herodias (Herod's wife and Salome's mother), and John the Baptist. The play explores themes of desire, power, and corruption, and is known for its vivid language and dramatic imagery. Salome has been adapted into numerous stage productions, operas, and films, and is considered one of Wilde's most enduring works.THE YOUNG SYRIAN: She has a strange look. She is like a little princess who wears a yellow veil, and whose feet are of silver. She is like a princess who has little white doves for feet. One might fancy she was dancing. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
