This project examines the character of Sabbatarianism in Nonconformity, 1830-1860. Nonconformists considered England's disregard for the Sabbath as unacceptable and a sign of moral decline. Through pen and sermons, Nonconformists pleaded with English residents to properly observe the Sabbath because God ordained it at creation and thus it had application for people in every age. Chapter three outlines a typical Sunday within Nonconformity while chapter four explains the blessings and curses associated with Sabbath obedience or neglect. The topic of chapter five is Nonconformists' stance on Sabbath legislation. Some Nonconformists supported Sabbath legislation and some did not. An appendix is also included with the identification of Nonconformist writers along with their denominational affiliation.
