Rejected Addresses: And Other Poems is a collection of satirical poems written by James Smith. The book contains the famous Rejected Addresses poems, which were written in response to a competition held by The Times newspaper in 1812. The competition was to write a poem to celebrate the opening of the new Drury Lane Theatre in London. Smith and his friend Horace Smith wrote a series of humorous and satirical poems under the pseudonym The Brothers Whistlecraft. Although their poems were not chosen as the winner, they became hugely popular and were eventually published in this collection. In addition to the Rejected Addresses poems, the book also contains a variety of other satirical and humorous poems, including The Baby's Debut, The Widow, and The Lawyer. Many of the poems poke fun at the societal norms and conventions of the time, and offer a witty and entertaining commentary on the world around them.Overall, Rejected Addresses: And Other Poems is a classic collection of satirical poetry that continues to entertain and amuse readers today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
