Tracing the arc of Christ's redemption from Old Testament types and prophecy through New Testament reality.
[Jesus] said to them, 'These are my words that I spoke to you
while I was still with you, that everything written about me
in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must
be fulfilled.' Then he opened their minds to understand the
Scriptures, and said to them, 'Thus it is written, that the
Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead.'
Luke 24:44-46
From Adam's fall through Malachi's final word, through prophecies, types
and events, God promised a Redeemer. He is the Lord Jesus Christ, and
the Old Testament is about him. The New Testament is also about Jesus,
and it records how he fulfilled all that was promised of him. Truly it is said
that the Old Testament looks forward to Christ, the New Testament looks
backward to Christ-Christ is the center of the Bible.
Redeemer Promised, Redeemer Fulfilled traces the arc of Christ's redemption
from the Old Testament prefigures and prophecies through their
fulfillments in the New Testament gospels. The arc is wonderfully fitted
for the Lenten season, observed by Protestants as a time of reflection,
repentance and recommitment to the Savior and culminating in the
Easter celebration of his resurrection. For each day in the season there is
a Scripture reading, followed by a short lesson that is theologically based
toward the goal of devotional maturity. The book also serves as a primer on
seeing Jesus in the Old Testament, and it illuminates the infallibility of the
Bible-two topics profitable for study in any season. The book is intended
for both private and group use.
