Recollections Of A Relieving Officer offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and work of Edward P. Rowsell, a relieving officer in Victorian England. Rowsell recounts his experiences administering the Poor Law, providing aid to the impoverished, and navigating the complex social landscape of the time. His recollections shed light on the daily struggles of the poor, the operation of workhouses, and the challenges faced by those tasked with providing relief.
This firsthand account provides valuable insights into the social conditions and attitudes prevalent in Victorian society. Rowsell's observations offer a compelling narrative for anyone interested in social history, the history of social work, and the lives of the less fortunate in 19th-century England.
