In this literary approach to biblical stories for the modern reader, Petersen's study examines the dynamics of biblical narrative, employing workable methods for reading accounts of women's lives. Separate chapters analyze the stories of Hannah, Deborah, and Tamar (daughter-in-law of Judah), brilliant examples of sophisticated literary artistry. By unpacking the techniques and strategies used to construct character, point of view, and plot narrative analysis, Reading Women's Stories: Female Characters in the Hebrew Bible presents protagonists who become real people struggling with real problems. These moving and inspiring women respond to the issues confronting them and their families, becoming models of commitment and images of sensitivity and courage. Beyond analyzing these narratives, he teaches readers how to get more out of every biblical story they read.
