Originally written and performed for the Mary R. Fisher Elementary School's annual assembly in celebration of Read Across America, a reading initiative by the National Education Association, Read Me a Story highlights moments in a young boy's life.
He starts with a plea to his Mom, Can you read, read, read me a story? Then he's a student at school whose teacher asks him to read her a story questions, Where? What? Or who? Did you find any clues? Later in life, when he has grown up and has a child of his own, life comes full circle as he hears his own son whisper, Can you read, read, read me a story?
The sheet music at the end of the book and the beautiful recording of the song (free online), transform this engaging story into a singalong for all generations to enjoy. You'll be humming the tune long after you read the last words of the book: Just read me a story. Then I'm off to sleep.
