Rutherford And Son is a play in three acts written by Githa Sowerby and first published in 1912. The play tells the story of John Rutherford, a wealthy industrialist who runs a glassworks factory in northern England. Rutherford is a domineering and controlling figure who expects his family to obey him unquestioningly. When his son, John Jr., rebels against his father's authority and decides to leave the family business, Rutherford is outraged and sets out to punish him. Meanwhile, Rutherford's daughter, Janet, is struggling to find her own place in the world and to assert her independence from her father. The play explores themes of family conflict, gender roles, and the tensions between tradition and modernity. It is considered a classic of early 20th-century British drama and has been praised for its insightful portrayal of working-class life and its nuanced depiction of complex family dynamics. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
