From the contentious amendment of the Traditional Rulers Council law in Akwa Ibom State that saw the emergence of Oku Ibom Ibibio as the First-Class king from the Ibibio ethnic group, to the unprecedented crisis that rocked the ancient throne of Obong of Calabar in Cross River State, where two kings were crowned simultaneously in 2008. The book lays bare the intricate web of interests, loyalties, and betrayals that underpin these conflicts. It also examines the intriguing case of a deputy village head in Uruan local government area in Akwa Ibom State, who was given a position to hold in trust as a caretaker by the elected chief, refused to relinquish power he held in trust for the rightful owner, thus sparking a bitter struggle for control.
