She includes details about her childhood, education, and marriage to her husband Alan. Jarrett was shocked when he died after twenty-five years spent together. She now realizes he died of AIDS-related pneumonia. The doctors didn't think to test a seventy-seven-year-old man for the disease.
Jarrett was the lucky one. Not only did the doctors diagnose her in time, but she had a companion to support and love her through her recovery. Jarrett reminisces about her first meeting with her current husband, Ronald, and their long, on-again, off-again courtship. Now free of AIDS and adjusting to life as HIV positive, she looks forward to what the future holds.
