The Romp is a delightful musical entertainment in two acts, adapted by T. A. Lloyd from Isaac Bickerstaff's Love in the City. This edition captures the spirit of the original production as it was performed at the Theatre-Royal in Drury Lane. Lloyd's adaptation brings a fresh and engaging energy to Bickerstaff's work, making it accessible and enjoyable for contemporary audiences.
This edition offers a valuable glimpse into the theatrical landscape of the late 18th century. The play showcases the popular musical styles and comedic themes that captivated theatergoers of the period. With its lively characters and engaging plot, The Romp provides both entertainment and historical insight into the evolution of musical theater.
