As I write this concluding chapter for The Rise of the Sikh Empire, I am immersed in a contemplative state, reflecting on the remarkable voyage of the Sikh community. The rise of the Sikhs throughout the 18th and 19th centuries may be considered a rather insignificant event in the broader context of global history. However, the consequences had a significant impact. After enduring more than two centuries of Muslim rule in northern India, the Sikhs established a territory that stretched all the way to the western areas of Peshawar. This expansion not only altered the political terrain but also suggested an alternative historical path where, in the absence of British involvement, the boundaries of present-day Pakistan and India may have been significantly distinct.
