Rilla of Ingleside is a novel by the renowned Canadian author, Lucy Maud Montgomery. It is the eighth and final book in the Anne of Green Gables series, and was first published in 1921. The story takes place during World War I, and follows the life of Rilla Blythe, the youngest daughter of Anne and Gilbert Blythe. The novel begins with Rilla being a carefree and somewhat irresponsible teenager, more interested in socializing with her friends than in the world events happening around her. However, as the war breaks out and her brothers and friends are called to fight, Rilla's world is turned upside down. She is forced to grow up quickly, and takes on new responsibilities as she tries to support her family and community through the difficult times.Throughout the novel, Rilla faces many challenges and heartaches, as she watches her loved ones go off to war and wonders if they will ever return. She also learns the importance of sacrifice, bravery, and patriotism, as she and her friends work together to support the war effort. Along the way, Rilla discovers her own strength and resilience, and learns to appreciate the value of family, friendship, and community.Rilla of Ingleside is a poignant and moving story, filled with vivid descriptions of life during wartime, and richly drawn characters who capture the spirit of the era. Montgomery's writing is lyrical and evocative, and her portrayal of Rilla's journey from carefree teenager to mature young woman is both inspiring and heartwarming. This book is a must-read for fans of the Anne of Green Gables series, as well as anyone interested in historical fiction and the impact of war on ordinary people.October passed out and the dreary days of November and December dragged by. The world shook with the thunder of contending armies; Antwerp fell --Turkey declared war--gallant little Serbia gathered herself together and struck a deadly blow at her oppressor; and in quiet, hill-girdled Glen St. Mary, thousands of miles away, hearts beat with hope and fear over the varying dispatches from day to day. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
