Closed AI asks users to trust the system. Open AI invites users to inspect, adapt, and participate. Closed AI often gives people a polished product. Open AI gives people a tool they can shape. Closed AI says, Use what we provide. Open AI says, Build what you need.
Of course, openness also brings responsibility. A powerful model in more hands can create innovation, but it can also create risk. Bias, misinformation, privacy problems, hallucinations, and misuse do not disappear just because a model is open. In some ways, openness makes ethical use even more important because more people can deploy the technology in more contexts.
