Riders of the Purple Sage is a classic Western novel written by Zane Grey. The story is set in the late 1800s in the American West, where a woman named Jane Withersteen finds herself in a difficult situation. She is a wealthy and independent woman who owns a large ranch, but she is being pressured by the local Mormon community to marry a man she does not love. When Jane refuses, she becomes the target of their anger and violence.Enter Lassiter, a gunslinger with a mysterious past who comes to Jane's aid. Together, they fight against the corrupt Mormon leaders and their hired guns, including the infamous Bishop Dyer. Along the way, they encounter other memorable characters such as Bern Venters, a young cowboy who falls in love with Jane, and the Masked Rider, a vigilante who seeks revenge against the Mormon leaders. As the story unfolds, Grey paints a vivid picture of the rugged and unforgiving landscape of the West, and the complex relationships between the settlers, the Native Americans, and the Mormon community. The novel is a thrilling adventure filled with action, romance, and suspense, and is considered one of the greatest Westerns ever written.1912. From the master of the western comes the novel that rocketed him to popularity. The story begins: A sharp clip-clop of iron-shod hoofs deadened and died away, and clouds of yellow dust drifted from under the cottonwoods out over the sage. Jane Withersteen gazed down the wide purple slope with dreamy and troubled eyes. A rider had just left her and it was his message that held her thoughtful and almost sad, awaiting the churchmen who were coming to resent and attack her right to befriend a Gentile.
