The Riddle Ring is a novel written by Justin McCarthy and published in 1896. The story is set in the late 19th century and follows the adventures of two young men, Jack and Maurice, who become embroiled in a mystery involving a stolen ring and a series of riddles. The novel begins with Jack and Maurice meeting at a university in London. They quickly become friends and decide to spend their summer holiday together. While on a trip to the countryside, they stumble upon a group of gypsies who are camped near a ruined castle. The gypsies are friendly and invite the two young men to join them for dinner.During the meal, the gypsies show Jack and Maurice a ring that they claim has magical powers. The ring is said to be able to answer any question if the wearer can solve a riddle. Jack and Maurice are intrigued by the ring and ask the gypsies if they can borrow it. The gypsies agree, but warn the two friends that the ring is cursed and whoever possesses it will come to a bad end.Jack and Maurice soon discover that the ring has been stolen from a wealthy aristocrat, Lord Delafield. They decide to return the ring to its rightful owner, but find that Lord Delafield has disappeared. The two friends set out on a quest to find Lord Delafield and solve the mystery of the stolen ring.Along the way, Jack and Maurice encounter a cast of colorful characters, including an eccentric inventor, a beautiful actress, and a sinister villain. They also encounter a series of riddles that they must solve in order to uncover the truth about the ring and Lord Delafield's disappearance. The Riddle Ring is a classic adventure novel that combines elements of mystery, romance, and humor. It is a fast-paced and engaging story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
