Richard Baxter and Puritan Politics by Richard Schlatter is a comprehensive and insightful study of the life and political beliefs of Richard Baxter, one of the most prominent Puritan leaders of the 17th century. The book explores Baxter's views on politics, government, and the relationship between church and state, and how these views shaped his activism and influence during a tumultuous period in English history.Schlatter provides a detailed analysis of Baxter's writings and sermons, as well as his interactions with other Puritan leaders and political figures of the time, such as Oliver Cromwell and Charles II. The book also examines Baxter's involvement in key political events, including the English Civil War, the Restoration, and the Glorious Revolution.Through his careful research and analysis, Schlatter offers a nuanced and complex portrait of Baxter as a political thinker and activist, showing how his beliefs evolved over time and how he navigated the complex political landscape of 17th-century England. The book is an essential read for anyone interested in the history of Puritanism, English politics, or the intersection of religion and politics in early modern Europe. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
