DEAR SIR: I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your complimentary note of invitation to the annual meeting of the Army of the Cumberland, at Columbus, on the 16th and 17th of September next, and to assure jrou that I will most assuredly attend, with two or more members of my personal staff. Let me, as a privileged friend, suggest that you extend a few special invitations to the Navy, and even Marine Corps; for these national courtesies bring members of all corps into harmonious action with the great volunteer element of the country.
