A Residence Among The Chinese: Inland, On The Coast, And At Sea is a book written by Robert Fortune in 1857. The book is a detailed account of the author's experiences and observations during his travels and residence in China. Fortune was a Scottish botanist and plant collector who was sent to China by the Royal Horticultural Society to collect and study plants. The book is divided into three parts, each describing Fortune's experiences in different regions of China. The first part describes his travels inland, where he visited various cities, villages, and temples, and observed the customs and traditions of the Chinese people. The second part describes his experiences on the coast, where he visited ports and trading centers and met with Chinese merchants and officials. The third part describes his travels at sea, where he sailed along the coast of China and visited various islands.Throughout the book, Fortune provides detailed descriptions of the landscapes, flora, fauna, and people he encountered during his travels. He also provides insights into Chinese culture, religion, and society, and discusses the challenges and opportunities of doing business in China. The book is considered an important historical document and a valuable resource for anyone interested in Chinese culture, history, and society. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
