This is a report by the Commissioners of the Jackson Monument Association to the Legislature of the State of Louisiana, dating back to 1856. It details the efforts to erect a monument in honor of Andrew Jackson. The report likely includes information on fundraising, design plans, construction progress, and related activities undertaken by the association. It offers valuable insights into the historical context and public sentiment surrounding the commemoration of Jackson's legacy in Louisiana during the mid-19th century. Scholars and historians interested in American history, monument construction, and the cult of personality around prominent figures will find this report a fascinating primary source. It provides a snapshot of the efforts to memorialize Jackson's contributions and reflects the prevailing attitudes of the time. The report also sheds light on the role of public associations in shaping collective memory.
