A non-commissioned officer in the 107th Ordinance Medium Maintenance Company during World War II, Sgt. Forrest A. Thornton personally experienced four major battles: Northern France (July 1944 to September 1944), Rhineland (September 1944 to March 1945), Ardennes-Alsace (December 1944 to January 1945), and Central Europe (March 1945 to May 1945).
In this down-to-earth journal of memoirs and reflections, the homegrown West Virginia native writes candidly of his pre-war romance, enlistment in the United States Army, voyage overseas on the Troup Ship RMS Queen Elizabeth, and wartime ventures. Committed to his vibrant faith, undaunted patriotism, and patiently waiting fiancé, Thornton stayed the course through it all, and now engagingly shares his story. His memories and thoughts include:
- Submarine danger on the North Atlantic Ocean
- German bombers and the Luftwaffe
- Pilotless flying bombs
- Narrow escape near Bonn, Germany
- Axis Sally - 1942
- The atomic bomb
Your own courage and gratitude will become freshly renewed as you vicariously take this journey with him and Report for Duty!
