Within the framework of cultural-religious competence in civic education, examining the phenomena of religious communities in a pluralistic-democratic society appears to be essential. Fundamentalism-Fanaticism (Part 1) and Peace Education (Part 2), in their various forms, will be discussed in this study from a sociocultural perspective. The author views this topic as a contribution to (Protestant) adult education and political education.Wars and conflicts have shaped not only Europe but also many regions of the world. The conflict in Ukraine is a regional conflict, yet its consequences are felt worldwide (e.g., core inflation, rising energy and food prices; refugee flows; conflicts in the Indo-Pacific). There are ongoing conflicts in Africa characterized by a high propensity for violence. This situation offers little hope for peace in the foreseeable future. Empirical research indicates that only 20 percent of all interstate wars end in military defeat, while 30 percent have no clear outcome (cf., resource depletion).
