The 1988 Federal Constitution assigned common competence to the federal entities and set guidelines for the formulation of policy and the execution of basic sanitation actions with the promotion of programs aimed at improving the sector. Law 11.445/2007 established national guidelines for the sector and determined the fundamental principles for the provision of services, with emphasis on adequate supply for health and the environment, efficiency and economic sustainability, integration of infrastructures and services with the efficient management of water resources, as well as the adoption of measures to encourage moderation in water consumption. This study aimed to identify whether basic sanitation conditions are related to the performance of health, education, employment and income indicators in the municipalities of Minas Gerais. In order to achieve the research proposal, the factor analysis method was used to identify and characterize the profile of the municipalities with regard to the aforementioned sectors, and in order to verify whether the municipalities with the best basic sanitation indicators are those with the best socio-economic profiles, the test of means for independent samples was applied.
