Redgauntlet: A Tale of the Eighteenth Century is a historical novel written by Sir Walter Scott. The story is set in Scotland during the Jacobite uprising in the mid-18th century. The main character, Alan Fairford, is a young lawyer who travels to the Scottish border to meet his friend, Darsie Latimer. Along the way, he becomes embroiled in a complicated plot involving the Jacobites and the Hanoverian government. The central figure in the plot is the mysterious and powerful Redgauntlet, a Jacobite leader who is determined to restore the Stuart dynasty to the throne of England. As Fairford tries to unravel the conspiracy, he is drawn into a dangerous game of political intrigue and personal loyalty. The novel is a thrilling adventure story that explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and political idealism. It is also a vivid and detailed portrait of life in 18th-century Scotland, from the rugged landscapes to the colorful characters who inhabit it.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
