The book dissolves traditional political categories. Left and right, capitalism and socialism, state and market are treated as surface narratives that compress deeper systemic dynamics into symbolic conflict. Instead, governance is redefined as field engineering: the design of incentive structures, feedback architectures, institutional memory, and learning systems that shape collective behaviour. Crises are analysed as phase transitions rather than shocks; collapse as attractor reconfiguration rather than accident. Financial instability, political polarisation, ecological breakdown, and cultural stagnation are shown to arise from common structural pathologies such as feedback overload, reward misalignment, memory dominance, and loss of exploratory capacity.
A central contribution of the book is the integration of artificial intelligence and hybrid cognition into political economy. Intelligence is no longer located in individuals or institutions, but emerges as a coupled human-machine system operating across digital platforms, algorithms, data infrastructures, and social networks. Automation is analysed not primarily as labour displacement, but as reward displacement and epistemic unemployment: the erosion of human agency in meaning-making, decision processes, and collective learning. The future economy is therefore framed as a cognitive field, in which power increasingly resides in control over data, algorithms, and interpretive architectures.
The final chapters articulate a set of design principles for adaptive civilisation. These include open feedback channels, attractor permeability, distributed learning access, temporal alignment, and structural humility. Sustainability is redefined as long-horizon feedback coherence rather than moral responsibility. Institutions are reconceived as learning systems capable of memory pruning, rotational power, and continuous redesign. The future is treated as an open phase space, inherently indeterminate and generative, requiring adaptive navigation rather than predictive control.
Ultimately, Recursive Political Economy does not offer a political programme or ideological vision. It offers a new epistemic posture. It presents political economy as a living theory, a recursive cognitive field that must remain permanently revisable, reflexive, and open to its own transformation. The book positions civilisation itself as a collective intelligence in evolution, and politics as the ongoing process through which humanity learns how to design, understand, and inhabit its own complexity.
