September 1944 on a French roadside, which was clear of traffic except for a horse-drawn cart that had passed...Bring the weapons, he ordered. Paddy claimed into the jeep beside Goddard who was driving, and they set off with Paddy checking the twin Vickers weapons mounted in front.Joy Matine and Kelly Delwire are writers living in 2001 Paris. They are trying to draw a portrayal of a war hero who had his own stories to tell but would rather not tell them. While they piece together a combatant's life through others that they meet on the way, including barman Hari, expert repairer of safes; Miss Ayer, a Doctor of psychology, and psychiatrist, depending on your point of view, who brings nice things to eat from Cyprus; Marston Bannerman bar manager and undercover agent; and Ciar Quick who's name changes a lot after getting out of prison; together with The Walker, who fought with our hero during the war and has now lost his boots. A question lingers, can they find the war hero, the owner of the boots, and themselves as they grow closer to each other?Colin Reid
