Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520) was a painter and architect of the Florentine school in the Italian High Renaissance. Stirred by a perpetual urge to experiment in the twenty years of his career, he studied first in Umbria, with his father Giovanni Santi, then in Pint Uricchio and in Perugino. When he studied in Florence, he adopted the styles of Leonardo and Michelangelo, and in Rome, Venetian painting and the masterpieces of classical art. He is best known for his Madonnas and for his large figure compositions in the Vatican in Rome, all illustrated in this enlightening book.
