He served as the Chief Minister of Haryana from 24 March 1967 until 2 November, 1967, and also served in the union cabinet. He was the second Chief Minister of the state and first speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha after its secession from Punjab, which state he had also represented as a minister at one time. Early Life Born on 20th February 1921 in the village of Nangal Pathani, he joined St Stephens College in 1942. After graduating he enrolled in the Indian National Army and fought in the Second World War. Political Career He formed the Kisan-Mazdur party in 1952. This was the beginning of his political career. Rao Birender Singh fought as an independent candidate in the Joint Punjab Vidhan Sabha for the 1st time in 1954 and successfully won.
