INSIDE HISTORY BONUS

Born on March 19, 1945, in Long Beach, California, Randy Steven Kraft was the lone son of a small family of six. The family moved to California after his father, Harold Herbert Kraft, was hired by the Douglas Aircraft Company during World War II. Randy's mother, Opal Kraft, struggled financially but worked hard to supplement her husband's salary, working as a school chef and seamstress among other occupations. Even though Randy's father didn't get along with him much, his mother and three older sisters made up for it by giving him plenty of attention.

The Kraft family moved to Orange County's Midway City in 1948, taking up residence in a former WACC dormitory. Despite their modest upbringing, they became engaged members of the neighborhood, with Opal eventually taking on a leadership position within the church.
