Ramona is a novel written by Helen Hunt Jackson, first published in 1884. The story is set in Southern California during the late 1800s and follows the life of a young girl named Ramona, who is half-Scottish and half-Native American. The novel explores themes of race, identity, family, and love.Ramona is raised by her adoptive mother, Seora Moreno, on a wealthy ranch in California. Ramona's life is changed forever when she falls in love with a Native American man named Alessandro, who works on the ranch. Despite the objections of their families and the prejudices of the time, Ramona and Alessandro marry and start a family. The novel delves into the complex relationships between the different races and cultures in California during this time period. Jackson portrays the Native Americans as victims of the white settlers who have taken over their land and destroyed their way of life. Ramona's story is a powerful commentary on the injustices suffered by Native Americans and the need for greater understanding and acceptance between different cultures.Ramona is a classic American novel that has been widely read and loved for over a century. It is a poignant and moving tale of love, loss, and hope that continues to resonate with readers today.Hearing these words, Ramona came to the window, and leaning out, whispered, Are you talking about Alessandro's staying? Let me come and talk to him. He must not go. And running swiftly through the hall, across the veranda, and down the steps, she stood by Alessandro's side in a moment. Looking up in his face pleadingly, she said: We can't let you go, Alessandro. The Senor will pay wages to some other to go in your place with the shearers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
