R.
It's a simple letter. To most, it means nothing. But for Phoenix, it has represented hope. It is his book.
Writing at the height of the Covid pandemic, and seeking to challenge his previous book of poetry in his trilogy I, Phoenix set out to push his own boundaries and write a book of poetry that would be satisfying and invigorating and fulfilling.
Channeling strong emotions of metal music, while constantly seeking to find his own unique style and voice as a poet, Phoenix wrote the poems in this collection with a vengeance, searching meaningfully for that hope; writing poems in open parking lots on his iPad, always seeking to expand his understanding of the world at a time of much despair and suffering.
Contemplating the tradition of everyday letters as perfect symbols to meditate on, R means something special to Phoenix, and he hopes you see what it means, too. Something as simple as a letter, can lead to a whole book of poems.
He hopes you enjoy.
